GW/SW-002

GW/SW-002
Waun Fach   811m asl
Grid ref. SO 215 300    Locator IO81KX

For today's activation I was joined by Ian 2W0IWM who has recently joined our group after returning from Brazil, where he has lived and worked for the past few years.
Our route for today's activation started at SO186 290, heading east to SO203 286 then north to SO203 293 and finally north east to the summit with a total distance of 4k each way and an ascent of 520m.
By the time we reached 600m we were in thick cloud and could feel the temperature dropping by the minute.    We continued climbing and soon left the cloud behind to find blue sky's and brilliant sunshine.
As we approached the summit it was clear that the National Parks had been very busy in the area and had installed new footpaths and had improved drainage greatly.  This summit has always been infamous for being extremely wet and muddy even in the best of weather but things are now much improved.
After setting up, all the day's contacts were made on vhf, with summit to summit's with GW/SW-001, GW/MW-011, G/WB-023 and finally G/CE-003.
Many thanks to all chasers and fellow activators who made the day such a success.
