Summit Information for GW/SW-017
Hirfynydd - 481m, 1 point
Association: Wales Region: South Wales
Latitude: 51 45 18 N, Longitude: 3 41 0 W
Grid Reference: SN 839076, QTH Locator: IO81DR
Our starting point for today's activation is Banwen SN855 095.
From here the route, which is mostly forestry track, heads south-west towards the summit which is around 3.5k with 230M of ascent.
The gradient is fairly gentle for the majority of the way making it a very pleasant walk.
From the summit you can see most of the major summits of the Brecon Beacons and as an added bonus, there are lots of convenient fence posts for supporting antennas.
Phil and I spent around two hours at the summit and made many interesting contacts on 60, 40 & 2M including six summit to summit.
Many thanks to all those who helped with our second activation of Hirfynydd and made this such an enjoyable day out for Phil and myself
